HPA Motorsports Inc. to Debut Three Twin-Turbo
DSG Volkswagens at the Texas Mile

SURREY, BC Canada - February 23, 2010. Canadian tuner HPA Motorsports announces that it will field a unique trio of twin turbo DSG equipped cars in the March running of the Texas Mile. Held in Goliad TX, competitors run their hardware from a standing start across a full one mile track to determine their top speed. Popularity of the bi-annual event is surging as competitors embrace a more extreme test for performance, durability, and nerve than standard quarter mile drag races and all 170 slots have been filled for the March event.

More than a year on the drawing board, HPA’s first production VR6 DSG 4-Motion converted twin turbo Scirocco will break cover in Goliad Texas. As described by Marcel Horn, President of HPA Motorsports, “We selected this event to publically unveil the highly anticipated FT565 twin turbo VR6 Scirocco as it is the only venue in the entire country where you can legally let such a big dog off its leash and run wide open throttle”. HPA is the only source in North America for a new 2010 Scirocco. Surfacing from a 22 year absence on market, the team at HPA has taken the docile 4 cylinder front wheel drive European Scirocco nameplate and infused it with the DNA of a Super Car in the form of its all wheel drive 565 HP powerplant.

Alongside the Scirocco, a Houston resident will take delivery of his freshly converted FT565 DSG twin turbo R32. The evolution of this build has inspired enthusiasts around the world as a prime example of HPA’s modular approach to tuning and “Built to be Driven” philosophy. Only a year ago, this car had completed the transformation from HPA’s GT30 based FT450 single turbo to its GT35 powered “Black Jack” single turbo package and was showcased at California Speedway where it was offered up for test drives by many R32 enthusiasts. This car is now equipped with HPA’s first air-to-water intercooled twin turbo package and has been converted from 6-speed manual to DSG; becoming another exciting market debut for the HPA team.

Dubbed by Popular Mechanics as one of the 12 most exciting cars from the 2008 SEMA show, the Decathlon FT640 will be the final car on HPA’s docket for the Texas Mile. The initial chassis preparation and project build was followed by enthusiast forums around the world as HPA’s fabrication team hand formed the steel wide body flares and chromoly roll cage. This eye-catching R32 has since undergone a huge transformation in preparation for the Texas Mile and has been retrofit with a new FT640 engine package to be offered exclusively in HPA’s 2010/2011 Scirocco program.

Horn says, “The FT640 has to be one of the most exciting power plants we have turned out in recent years and we could not pass up the opportunity to shake it down on the open mile. It will be the first HPA engine package to offer twin GT30 chargers”. The FT640 package utilizes a 3.6L FSI long block found in the Touareg/Q7/Passat which is then hand built with custom pistons and a specially prepared head. A custom set of turbo manifolds is massaged to house a pair of huge GT3071 Garrett ball bearing turbo chargers and the DSG gearbox has been heavily modified to hold the extreme torque of this new engine package.
