For those looking to source their own TDI motor, we offer two DIY hardware packages:
Stage 1 DIY Package: $2599
Stage 1 is a bare bones grouping and intended for those who wish to take on the fabrication and plumbing of the TDI’s boost track, gas pedal fitment, etc, and have the resources available to tune the engine software around their final configuration.
Stage 1 includes:
• CNC machined steel crankshaft to flywheel adapter
• CNC machined aluminum sandwich plate with locating dowels to transition from TDI block to Jeep bell housing (note: minor clearancing may be required on the bell housing to accommodate Bosch starter nose)
• Custom machined flywheel with crankshaft bolts
• CNC machined Starter flange with laser cut CNC formed stainless steel heat shields (for use with Bosch starter; not included)
• Left and Right male / female motor mount set (used in conjunction with OEM Jeep rubber mounts; not included) with bolts
• 2.5” stainless steel turbo exhaust downpipe
• includes immobilizer defeat service for those wishing to utilize the original VW wiring harness and ECU as we have done in our project. This will open the door to a variety of TDI power prom upgrades and retain access to factory VW OBD diagnostics.
Note:// Our engine mounts can either be bolted in or welded on. Our installation images showcase the installation using the supplied bolts.

Stage 2 DIY Package: $1100
Stage 2 builds on the Stage 1 package; adding the engineered Air-to-Water intercooling system, a performance ECU tune that has reconfigured the injection around he ultra efficient boost track, the bracket for the gas pedal fitment, along with certain key coolant line fittings to better facilitate the installation of the Volkswagen cooling system.
Stage 2 includes:
• Air Intake with K&N cone Filter
• CNC machined aluminum turbo outlet adapter
• CNC machined Throttle Body inlet adapter
• steel intake piping
• silicone couplers and clamps
• Air to Water Intercooler with bracket
• Auxiliary Radiator with Fan and brackets
• Auxiliary Water Pump
• Coolant line flange adapters to retain OEM VW cooling system
• Bracket for mounting VW Pedal Assembly
• Performance Engine ECU flash
Note:// Any customer that purchases the Stage 2 conversion package will have access to the OEM wiring diagrams for the TDI engine they sourced and need only quote the engine code and build year prior to the shipment of their installation kit.

Note:// At this time, HPA is not offering installation instructions that go beyond the basic installation of our supplied hardware. As our team establishes an index of the multiple variations between Jeep models over the past 2 decades, more instruction will become available.
Items needed for your DIY Conversion:
• 1.9L VW TDI engine, from 1999-2006. Preferred motor is the 2004-2006 BEW (PD diesel)
• Complete engine harness and ECU
• Complete cooling system including radiator/fans/relay module
• Starter motor from 2005 B5 Passat TDI
• Body harness (the second plug on the engine ECU) is strongly recommended
Note:
• VW Flywheel is NOT required as the Jeep unit is retained
• Keys and instrument cluster are NOT required as both stage 1 and 2 include the immobilizer defeat service; allowing you to retain the Jeep’s ignition.
• It is recommended that you start with a low mileage TDI (75,000 miles or less) as this will offer many miles of reliable enjoyment for your rock crawling Jeep.
